Ultralight Insulation Boards are not “soundproof,” but are an excellent product for the reduction of sound.

Ultralight Insulation Boards
Home / Bathroom Collection
Ultralight™ is a specialized composite board designed for floor heating applications. Warmup Insulation Boards are manufactured as flat, flexible, sheets they are water and mold resistant.
Yes, you can install Ultralight under Foil Heater Systems. While the Ultralight Insulation Board will deliver the best performance, the Warmup® Insulated Underlay may also be used as a more economical option for installation under a Foil Heater System. Warmup® FOIL systems are used to heat rooms under laminates, floating wood floors, and carpets. Refer […]
The perfect installation for Warmup Ultralight Insulation Boards would be a tight and staggered seams. Instead of lining up the edges of the boards perfectly, it is extremely important to offset them a bit to provide a thermal break. A thermal break is a barrier that stops heat from moving easily between inside and outside. When you have a good thermal break, your insulation works better, which means your home stays warmer without needing to turn up the heat all the time.
Although it would depend on the total point load (aka ground pressure), the answer is no. Warmup’s Ultralight was designed to be used in foot-traffic applications only.
Point loads greater than Warmup’s Ultralight Compressive Strength (10% Compression) of 32 psi (220 kPa) may cause a future failure. Warmup recommends a rigid foam that meets the specifications for heavy-point load applications.
Ultralight under concrete? Ultralight is designed for and can be used under concrete up to 2″ in thickness. When concrete is greater than 2″ the benefits of the Ultralight diminish, therefore, in concrete larger than 2″ we recommend the use of other insulating boards suitable for the specific application.

The WIB boards will save you money by acting as a very efficient thermal barrier. Heats up times in our testing facility were cut down from 2.5 hrs. to just 25 minutes. With a 78% fast ramp-up time, your system will save you 71% in electrical usage.
You can stick the insulation boards to the concrete slab using regular modified or pre-mixed thin set. We recommend a 1/4 x 1/4” trowel.

Primers help encapsulate dust to improve bonding with the thinset you’d apply to lay the boards. But on brand new or clean subfloors this may not be necessary. When in doubt, consider a solvent-free floor primer like Ardex P51 or Mapei SM. If your subfloor is not level or has a lot of residues, such as glue remnants from an old vinyl floor recently removed, you may need to apply a thin coat of leveler to smoothen the subfloor in preparation for your project.

Yes, you can self-level compound over Ultralight. This is particularly common when first applying our DCM-PRO membrane floor heating system and covering it with 3/8” of leveler. It can also be used directly over the boards when not using a heating system.

Ultralight can not be layered because the thickness will double of amount of movement under the tile which means the floor will not meet the declared wear ratings. Pro Tip: If you need more height, use leveler to prepare the floor as needed followed by Ultralight.

All surfaces should be thoroughly cleaned of all dirt and debris. When installing over an existing concrete base, it is important to remove all traces of existing finishes, contamination, etc. to allow for a clean surface.
