Ground Fault Error: What does this Mean if my Thermostat has “Ground Fault Error” on the Display?

Pressing the clear test monthly tab on the bottom of an active 4iE will give you a ground fault error message. If you receive a message alerting you to a potential Ground Fault Error and the tab has not been pushed, there may be an issue with the wiring or your floor heating cable.  If the message has appeared and the button has not been pushed, an electrician should be called to further investigate. Have all part numbers for your project handy for the following steps.

Warmup recommends first that an electrician confirms your system is wired to a dedicated line with no protection at the panel. If this is the case, the next step is to have your electrician use a digital multimeter set to a 200-ohm scale to test your heater. Your electrician must test the resistance of your heating system based on the heating model installed in your floor. Here is a clip showing how to do so:

Resistance readings outside of a 5% range alert us to an issue with the heater and explain the Ground Fault Error message. If resistance is within range and everything is properly wired, contact Warmup or complete a troubleshooting guide for thermostats under 3 years old and we will be happy to assist with your issue.
