How do I reset the WiFi relay on a WSM snow melting controller?
If you cannot see the Shelly Wi-Fi relay on your device (e.g., phone) when setting up the snow melting SM App it’s possible it “timed out” and will need to be reset.
Here’s how (this is done at the WSM controller, not the SM App):
- Disconnect power to the WSM controller (turn off all breakers connected to the WSM controller)
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Reconnect power to the WSM controller (turn on all breakers connected to the WSM controller)
- Wait 10 seconds.
- Toggle all the breakers connected to the WSM controller off, pause for 1 second, then on, and pause 1 second a total of 5 times (you will move all the breakers a total of 10 times)
- At this point if you may or may not hear it the relay click rapidly (inside an enclosure this can be difficult to hear)
- The device will reboot at this point and roughly 60 seconds after will begin to broadcast its access point.
- The Shelly Wi-Fi should be visible in the device’s Wi-Fi settings.
- Proceed with SM App setup.
Note: When setting up the SM App, the device (e.g., phone) needs to be connected to a 2.4 GHz network in the home. This is sometimes hidden because both networks may have the same SSID name. In this case, they will need to change the settings on their router. Here is a good resource article.
