The Challenge
Situated in the heart of Brooklyn, New York, a local school faced a recurring safety challenge during the winter months - how they keep their multi-floor building well protected from inclement weather? Previously, they had been relying on the traditional methods of snow removal, such as manual shoveling and salt application, which were proving to be insufficient and time-consuming. Both methods slightly reduced the risks associated with snow and ice buildup, but none of them eliminated the risk factors necessary to keep staff, parents, and students safe. The risk of slippery surfaces and potential accidents posed a significant concern for the school administration. In addition, traditional methods of snow removal were proving to be too costly in terms of time and money for the limited solutions they yielded. Recognizing that there was a need for an innovative solution that would ensure the safety of students and staff while staying within budget, the school sought a more efficient and effective approach to winter weather management.
The Solution
In response to the pressing safety challenge, the school decided to invest in nine cutting-edge Warmup Snow Melting Mat Systems. They realized that the Snow Melting Mats would be of the most use in frequented locations, so they strategically placed them in high-traffic areas such as entryways, ramps, and pathways. The mats were a great choice for this project, as they could be easily rolled out and placed under regularly shaped areas, making for a simple and swift installation process. Additionally, the mats come pre-spaced, meaning that they are already arranged within a pre-spaced mesh setting. Their pre-spaced design means that their spacing is already established to optimize their heat output and energy use. It also means that during installation, there is no room for spacing errors as there might be when using loose cables.
When in use, the Snow Melting Mats analyze the temperature and moisture levels of snow as it falls and begins to accumulate on top of a given pathway. When the system detects snow or ice, it activates and begins to send heat to the cables, generating the necessary amount to successfully melt the snow and ice. The cables emit heat as needed, meaning that the majority of the melted snow or ice will evaporate, ensuring that the surface does not refreeze afterwards. In this way, the electrically heated mats offered a comprehensive solution to snow and ice accumulation, one that removes the risk of slips and falls all who come in and out of the building.
The installation of these systems not only eliminated the labor-intensive process of manual snow removal but also provided a proactive and reliable means of maintaining safe walkways. The decision to embrace this advanced technology showcased the school's commitment to the well-being and security of its community.
The Result
For the Brooklyn school, the installation of the nine snow melting mat systems had immediate and significant benefits. During the winter months, the mats effectively prevented the formation of ice and snow, ensuring that the pathways and entry points remained clear and safe for everyone. The risk of slips and falls was reduced, promoting a safer environment for students, teachers, and staff. Beyond safety, the school also experienced increased operational efficiency, as the time and resources previously dedicated to snow removal were redirected to more beneficial academic endeavors. The decision to embrace innovative technology not only addressed the immediate safety concerns but also showcased the school as a forward-thinking institution dedicated to providing a secure and supportive learning environment, even in the face of challenging weather conditions.
