Underfloor Heating (the old way)
If you’d like to experience undefloor heating the way it used to be then you could do worse than to visit Bath (England) where you will find one of the finest preserved Roman Baths with Hypocaust (underfloor heating system).
You can also once again bathe in the warm spring waters that power the system with the opening of the new Thermae Bath Spa (the waters were closed to the public in 1978 following a health scare) where you may wallow in the waters of the mineral-rich, natural hot springs.
The Roman Baths include the West Baths which contain an exceptionally well preserved set of pilae - piles of tiles through which hot air circulated to heat the floor and walls of the room above. Find out more about underfloor heating the Roman Way.
